Yes, it's only the day after Thanksgiving! You're probably more focused on everything you want to accomplish before Christmas, but I encourage you to start thinking about what you want to accomplish in 2025, too! As you go through the next few weeks, first of all take time to remember the reason for the season--Jesus! Take at least a few minutes for Him every day--with Bible Study, prayer, and reflecting on how you can share the joy of Jesus with others.ย
As you go about errands and preparing for special meals and days, think of how you'd like to see things a year from now. Would you FINALLY like to have the extra bedroom cleaned out so it could be an extra bedroom? Would it bring you joy to see your freezer filled with nutritious, home-made meals that you could put in the crockpot in the morning, to be ready when everyone got home? Do you want to look at your bank account balance with satisfaction, not dread? Would you like to be able to take laundry downstairs without getting short of breath? Think about these things now, and then, in the (usually quieter) week between Christmas and New Year's, you can make goals that are meaningful to you, to make 2025 the best one yet!
I used to be one of those people who, every January 1st, filled a planner with big, multiple, life-changing resolutions and every single step Iโd take in the quest of sticking with each resolution every day. Iโve made financial, home improvement, mom improvement (me as a mom, not improving my mom!), job, professional, and health (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual) resolutions โ yep, all for the same year! Can you guess how many times I achieved the desired results by the end of the year? Thatโs right, ๐๐๐๐!
Despite reading many, many books and articles on โ๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐โ, Iโve never stuck with them. A โresolutionโ became something that lasted only as long as it took to painstakingly plan every detail ofโฆand then give up on. So a few years ago I changed my mindset. Instead of making unrealistic, one-time resolutions, I decided to make goals.
I now set goals throughout the year. They are often short term, with the focus being for the goal to become a habit, a permanent part of my life. Iโve never found a โperfectโ program, so I use hints and tips from different books and articles Iโve read, and make up some of my own โright-for-my-lifeโ rules or exceptions too.

The day after Memorial Day, or the day after Labor Day, are other good days to look at what you want to accomplish and make new goals. Maybe quarterly goals will be the right length for you.
